Stylista Muse-Special Edition

On the heels of my recent job with Kristin Adams on Catalina Island, it became evident she’d make a great ‘Stylista Muse,’ which spawned this special edition with a bit of a twist. Kristin gave me full rein of her closet and left the styling solely to me. I pieced together a couple of fresh, simple summer looks with accessories, and the results were quite apropos with summer at our doorsteps. It turns out Kristin’s wardrobe expanded that day, as she hadn’t thought of these summer ready combinations…I’d say that’s a win-win scenario. Without further ado, here are the two looks, which will take Kristin from daytime to dinner by candlelight with hubby.

White may be cliche for summer, nevertheless, summer wouldn’t be the same without it. In this first look I coupled this light, cotton tee with embellishments, with these figure flattering , white bootleg jeans.

This ivory and gold bracelet, helped to keep this look streamlined, and is the perfect summer accessory. The ring pictured with it, happens to flow well, and is a very special heirloom piece gifted to Kristin by her lovely mom on the big day she tied the knot.

This slate blue weaved platform completes the look perfectly in it’s simplicity while adding balance. The photo does the colour no justice, as they look black, however, the shade is so unique and flattering in person.

Now to prepare for that romantic dinner, by adding a soft summer blazer with a pop of colour, in preparation for a cool, summer night here in Los Angeles.Since we’ve stepped it up a notch with these dangle earrings, pulling back the hair in this simple ponytail showcases them, while taking this look more toward the romantic and feminine.

An effortless, summer daytime look has been transformed ever so slightly with just a few additions.

Kristin Adams has hosted a variety of shows on USA Network, AT&T U-Verse, G4 and the list goes on, to see a sampling of her work, check it out here. Coming soon, I will be engaging in a one-on-one with Kristin about her favourite fashion and beauty must-haves, career, family and more, so stay tuned.

Daiane Conterato, a native of Brazil, is no stranger to bold colour.  This ensemble is perfect for the typical summer day.  The green wide-leg trouser offers a great pop of colour and the ideal combination with a loose fitting blouse.  The statement necklace and platform sandal complete this look beautifully.

Brooke Stein looks fabulous, streamlined and current in this cobalt blue Topshop jumper and green J. Crew coat, perfect for the chilly evenings we have year around here in Southern California.  The mix of these two colours makes for a lovely palette, and the nude Christian Louboutin shoes are perfect for keeping this look simple by not introducing a third colour.

You’ve Sprung Ahead, Now Spring Into Colour!

The Spring 2012 shows were fraught with models “strutting their stuff” in living colour to funky beats.  Not to mention the sea of  fashionistas looking on, more than ready to introduce a bit of happy into their wardrobes by way of colour, colour and more colour.  Before you run out to buy that canary yellow suit you’ve been wondering if you can pull off, remember, this trend is most likely a passing one.  This is not meant to put a damper on your excursion to the mall, but to be the catalyst for words of reason.

As we all know by now, every trend is a recycled, albeit, updated version of a past trend.  This is to be expected, however, based on past experiences we’ve learned to exercise caution.  If colour is not done in a rich, luxurious fabric, it tends to look cheap, and don’t even think about being photographed in it.  Yet, to invest in the high-end designer pieces pictured here is not realistic, unless you have expendable income or happen to be living on a trust fund.

Don’t misunderstand, I’m no scrooge when it comes to colour, in fact, I appreciate the happiness it brings as well as anyone, however, I appreciate shopping smartly even more.  There is a sensible way to partake in this fun trend without sacrificing the rent or settling for less.  Let’s take a look at a few accessorizing options:

On a 10 point scale of hotness, this shoe tips the scales with a whopping 100 points at least!  Personally, a shoe like this would fulfill my craving for colour, and would be my only colour purchase for the season.  There would be no need for any additions since I’d be wearing these every moment of every hour of every day this Spring/Summer.

On your next visit to your faithful manicurist, leave your inhibitions outside the door, and go for the gusto with a bright nail shade.  This is a great way to partake in this trend for those who can’t easily be swayed out of their black.  Attention all you New Yorkers… (OPI Nail Shades- $7-$8)

Take a walk on the wild side with Nars’ Shiap lipcolour, nothing says colour like it! (Available at fine department stores- $24)

So you see, there’s something for everyone where colour is concerned… aren’t you glad you didn’t splurge on that canary yellow suit after all?
