Dazed and Confused June 2012 takes a look back at two decades of Japanese designer, Issey Miyake’s, Pleats Please label launched in 1993. The garments included in the Pleats Please label are made of high-quality polyester fabric, and what makes these pieces so unique, are the intricate accordion pleats which are pliable on the body. In August, Taschen is set to publish a 512 page volume titled Pleats Please~Issey Miyake, in celebration of 20 years of the label.

One to watch in the fashion industry is 24 year old Dion Lee, who is making quite a stir in the fashion industry. Based in Sydney, Australia, Lee’s approach to design is modern and innovative. His attention to detail is impeccable, and his unconventional use of materials is complemented by beautiful tailoring with the finest fabrics. Dion Lee graduated from Sydney Institute of Technology in 2007, he was profiled in Vogue Australia in March 2009 and a mere 12 months later one of his unique creations graced the cover.
Many are fascinated by Dion Lee, as he is being touted as the fashion industry’s next great force, at such a young age. His portfolio represents a stunning body of work, however, his self-named label achieved international success when Emma Watson wore one of his lovely frocks. Lee draws inspiration from architecture, mechanics and nature in his designs, which seems to be an unlikely fusion. Nevertheless, this seems to be working beautifully for him.
Local, as well as international buyers quickly took notice of Dion Lee’s designs, with major designer website Net-A-Porter.com and David Jones placing orders. Lee’s approach to fashion hits just the right notes.
