Brace Yourself For TODAY’S WORD…Lol, No Worries, It Isn’t Deep, Deep Is Passé

I haven’t blogged in a while, and I feel it.  Blogging is cathartic for me, this is one of the main reasons I do it.  Anyway, a short hiatus was needed.  Life was happening, intensely, right before my very eyes, and I’ve been thinking a lot about it…how people come and go like a vapour, (some you thought would stay for a lifetime others you may have known would be seasonal), my mortality, how things are rarely what they appear, unexpected circumstances, the valleys, the peaks, letting go…life.  Today I had no desire to blog about beauty or fashion, neither means much in the big scheme…

It’s only one day lovelies, I think…hmmmm.  Not to fret, I’m pretty sure I’m still obsessed.  Did you see the Marc Jacobs show?! Reed Krakoff?!  Comme Des Garçons???!?!?  See?  Clearly I’m still a work in progress…I digress.

IMG_2056Life is good, but really, it’s all just one big illusion; it feels like a game at times.  TRY…to smile like crazy everyday, laugh constantly until you’re rolled over, love people…and I mean the UNLOVABLE, think positively and be yourself…seriously, be yourself.  No matter what dramas unfold before you, try to remember ‘this too shall pass,’ the other option is to allow them to have you contemplating jumping off a short pier; when they’re only tests in the first place.  I know, could I possibly be anymore cliche?  Who have I become?!?!  I suppose clichés are this for a reason…Oh, and of course, a great skincare regimen, loads of water, plenty of sleep and maybe one fabulous piece from fashion week wouldn’t hurt…even during the valley moments, you’ll want to look your best.

In all seriousness, In the end, you’ll either be loved or not, can’t please them all.  I know without a shadow of doubt God loves us more than we are able to comprehend; no matter our blunders, and He will NEVER relinquish it. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you miss the mark, we all do, keep it moving.  It all boils down to unconditional, agape love.  Translation:  “Love me as I am, I’ll do the same in return…of course, if this doesn’t work for you, we’ll have it your way… I still love you though.”  Let’s purpose to love ourselves and one another through all of our junk, we’ve all got at least a spackling.  No need to be so deep and melodramatic over situations we can’t control no matter how we try forcing it, this is so last year…no, the year before…is it simply a charade?

Thank you for allowing me to pontificate…stay tuned for a fun-filled fashion or beauty post for the next one, lol.

Summer Holiday

There are few things more gratifying than enjoying summer with family on a much needed vacation. I’ve been pleasantly surprised while visiting an area of the States I never thought I’d appreciate so much… Memphis, Tennessee.  I’ve been deeply inspired, shared much laughter, learned so much about my culture and I’ve still 5 days to go! Stay tuned for more on my summer holiday when my journey ends, including a very delayed giveaway (smile)…

Ciao for now,
xoxo

Homage To My Dad, Happy Father’s Day!

As I thought about what I’d give my dad for Father’s Day this Sunday, June 18, I continued to draw a blank… one of my best friend’s inspired me to pay homage to my dad via written words, after I read the heartfelt poem she wrote to her father. Take a moment to let your dad, uncle, grandfather or whomever played an integral part in your upbringing know how much he is loved. This is a bit of a deviation from my typical blogging, however, I’ll be back in full swing this Saturday. As for now, here’s to you dad…

My Dear Dad

There are so many special words left unspoken as we go about our lives. Words our parents should hear as time goes by. Dad, I want you to know how special and loved you truly are, even though the distance between us seems so far.
Although we don’t talk every day, I hold you in my heart. The lessons learned so long ago will never depart. You taught me what it means to be a woman of integrity, you taught me how it isn’t necessary to sweat the little things.
When we were growing up, you made sure we had the very best; we always thought we were rich, as we never endured one test. Living in the ‘lap of luxury’ in our home in the ‘burbs, never knowing any problems existed as the world turned.
You always made me laugh and that continues to this day, your sense of humour is so refreshing to me, in every way. I often find myself reflecting on the good old days, sometimes wishing they hadn’t gone away…I know this is impossible, but dreaming is okay.
I love you more than words can express, you were always the coolest dad. You introduced me to the best ‘food for the soul’, as your stereo emitted the chords. Now as time seems to quickly progress, the memories seem all the more precious, I feel like I can connect the dots, to see God’s bigger purpose.
He knew what He was doing when He ordained you to be my dad, and I wouldn’t trade you in for the most valuable riches on this planet.

Happy Father’s Day!!!

Love Always, Donyale Anise Stokes June 2012

What are some of your fondest memories of your dear dad?
